The trend for this season is contemporary furniture with a casual look. Furniture features softened angles, smooth contours and plump volumes that retain a sleek quality. Sofas are block-shaped but are softened with tapered edges and curved lines. Fabrics are paired with wood for a fresh look and the products are energised with creative colour combos, creating a playful atmosphere. What we love about this soft seating trend is that it encourages togetherness and community, and it’s all about comfort!
We can all take notes from this theme and design products that invite touch:
• Incorporate super-soft fabrics into existing collections or give products softer, almost inflated silhouettes. We can experiment with padding that will engulf the body, creating extra comfort.
• Use plush materials such as rich velvets, soft worn leathers, lambswool and cotton to demonstrate that comfort and warmth are key, this also gives your products a homely look.
• Soft pastel colours such as mint green, light blue and baby pink add a subtle touch of colour to furniture and creates a soft ‘naivety’ look.
• While greys and soft metallics introduce a cooler, more industrial quality.
