YF Furniture has been providing high-quality office and contract furniture solutions nationally and internationally for 40 years. Based in Liversedge, West Yorkshire, YF Furniture is a family business and was established in 1981 by Mike and Elaine Scott.

We offer a personalised service, with no job too big or too small. Having worked with supermarkets, shipping lines and government departments, we are accustomed to working to tight deadlines, so no matter what your time-frame we can accommodate you.

The company was originally known as Yorkshire Fibreglass and worked on prestigious projects including the Royal Albert Hall. P&O Cruises and job centres nationwide.

As the company grew, YF Furniture increasingly specialised in office seating and held the furniture contract for the Northern Irish Government for 10 years. YF Furniture also worked under contract for Wm Morrison Supermarkets, furnishing all Morrisons stores nationwide and fitting out all the Safeway conversion stores following their acquisition by Morrisons.

In recent years, YF Furniture has developed a comprehensive selection of modular and soft seating, often working to a specific set of customer requirements to deliver bespoke solutions.

Adam Birkett – Joint Managing Director

Adam joined Y F Furniture in 2001 as Sales Executive on an intense learning curve, having never been involved in sales before, and knowing nothing about the product. He was trained from the shop floor up by Mike Scott, then MD. In 2003, Adam brought in the contract for Wm Morrison’s Supermarkets. Over the years, he progressed to Sales Manager and was made Sales Director in 2012. In 2005, he married Carly, Mike and Elaine’s daughter, Carly having joined the company in 2002, so it became a real family business. Adam became Joint Managing Director alongside Carly in February 2017, following the sad passing of Mike in December 2016. Adam continues to be the main point of contact for our customers and suppliers, and is now in charge of the running of the company on a day-to-day basis.

Carly Birkett - Joint Managing Director

Carly joined the company in 2002 as Sales & Accounts Administrator - but she has, however, been involved with YF from a very early age: being Mike and Elaine’s eldest daughter, she learned to ride her bike in the car park and helped out in the offices during school holidays. Elaine mentored Carly in all financial and administrative aspects of the company and Carly was indispensable to Mike as his right hand woman and PA. From there, she progressed to Financial Director in 2004, and became Joint Managing Director alongside her husband Adam in February 2017. She is now responsible for all HR issues and the administration of the quality management system (ISO9001:2015). Carly and Elaine take joint responsibility for all financial aspects of the company.

Elaine Scott - Company Secretary/Director

Elaine was Office Manager at the original Yorkshire Fibreglass during the early years of her marriage to Mike. She informed Mike when she heard that the holding company were selling that part of their business. They jointly agreed to purchase the business in a partnership with another husband and wife team. Elaine continued to take care of all the financial running of the company as Company Secretary whilst raising their two daughters, Carly and Kirsty. She continues to be very involved in all decisions regarding YF alongside Carly and Adam – specifically overseeing finances and accounts, chairing meetings and taking care of disciplinary procedures. Our employees joke that they know they have done something wrong when they are called in to see Elaine!

Mark Knowles - Works Manager

Mark has been with YF since he was only 17. He was mentored by Mike, who trained him in the full manufacturing process of our products alongside Alan Bottomley, then Works Manager. Over the years, the company has evolved, from initially manufacturing chiefly fibreglass seating, to specialising in office furniture, to the present-day demand for soft seating. Mark has been very involved in this transition. He progressed from Production Operative to Foreman, and became Works Manager when Alan retired in 2016. He is involved in all development work, oversees production and the planning of jobs, and is first point of contact for any issues concerning the staff. He is also always handy to have around when maintenance work needs doing!

Mike Scott - Founder (former Managing Director)

Mike bought YF Furniture (then Yorkshire Fibreglass) in 1981 along with his wife Elaine, and another husband-and-wife team. Having previously worked as a motor mechanic, Mike learned the business from the shop floor up and saw it go from strength to strength. Mike and Elaine bought out their partners in 1998 and continued to run the business until 2016, when Mike sadly passed away. He was so passionate about his company, the driving force behind it, and YF would not have been where we are today without him. We hope that we can do him proud in the future and continue his legacy.
