New products incoming!

For the past few months, we have been hard at work on new product development in collaboration with various customers, and we thought that alongside seeing the finished product, our readers may be interested in learning a little more about our development process. Read on to discover more about how we create new and exciting products in-house!

Beginnings

A trusted supplier of YF asked us recently if we could help them to develop a new seating module, a flexible acoustic booth, for one of their clients. More and more offices are moving towards this type of seating since the pandemic began – a way of partitioning and sectioning off work areas without using screens.  Acoustic booths are great for that little extra level of privacy within a large space, and are very ‘en vogue’.  Our supplier / potential customer sent us design ideas and measurements and our joint MD, Adam Birkett, and works manager, Mark Knowles, set to work to bring the idea to life.

 

Putting it together

The frame is always the place to start, so we worked on building a timber frame to the dimensions specified.  Once this was complete, we assessed it for strength and size, and our supplier visited us at our factory to confirm it looked right.  Once they had given it the go ahead, we moved on to foam it up.  Having already made various modular seating solutions, we knew that the best foam to use was the 10mm foam which we hold in stock.  This complete, we upholstered it in complementary blue and grey fabrics from the Camira Synergy range.

 

Our contacts also wanted a power point in the booth so that users could charge their devices while working, so we ensured that this was incorporated into the design without intruding on the overall aesthetics.

 

The finished product

When complete, we invited our suppliers to visit us again and try out the booth for themselves. They were very impressed and are due to visit us soon with their customer so that it can be given the final go-ahead. Once this is done, we will work on creating larger versions so that our supplier (soon to be customer!) can offer different permutations to their clients.  Here’s the finished product – look out for it on our Product pages very soon!

Ideas

While we have a number of modern operator chairs in our product base, as well as some well-established timeless classics, we felt it was time we introduced something new.  Joint MD Adam Birkett had something in mind…

Brainstorming

Adam visualised a sleek, stylish manager’s chair with a single shell.  He wanted sew detail to enhance the aesthetic appeal.  He liaised with Jean Moran, one of our sewing machinists, who helped him to pattern up the fabric and come up with a visually appealing design.

 

Brand new!

And here is the finished product!  Available as a chrome cantilever or as a swivel chair.  Also coming soon to our Product pages – keep your eyes peeled.  This will be available in a high back and medium back, with an endless choice of fabrics and vinyls.
